Value of the printed word

I am often teased as being backward, or a technological dinosaur, when it comes to new technologies, and operating them.
I always maintain that I would prefer reading a book any day to kill time.
Today , I was proved right in my belief, that holding a book in your hands, can provide real joy.

This is what happened. This afternoon, as I was sitting down to lunch, I switched on the t.v, to find out that I could see the channels at the bottom of the screen, but the picture didn't come. I fiddled around, switched between various channels, still no picture or sound. Then, I find out that our cable and Internet are connected, so since the phone service was down, the cable also wasn't able to boot up.

So I resigned myself to a tv-less lunch, and wished that I had a new book to read. That was when it struck me. A book in my hands, wouldn't have let me down like this. When all the technology fails, a book is there, to spare me from boredom.

Not to say that I don't like technology. I do, but I am just not up to par, on technological advances and gadgets. I still don't understand why, as technology improves, the keypads keep getting smaller, the inscribing on them minuscule.
For example, the Blackberry. A smart phone indeed, but the buttons are so small, that a person with any degree of visual difficulty, or "legally blind", as they say, cannot even decipher which is what. Similarly, the keypad to the new PS 3, the digital cameras, camcorders etc. Even the owner's manuals print is so small, I often don't bother trying to read it. Isn't that ironic? The gadget itself is small and compact, the features gigantic, but the print in manuals is ant size.

On the other hand, there is always the option for Large Print, in the printed word. A person with decreased vision can easily read such books, without much strain on their eyes.

A suggestion to phone, electronic manufacturers. Please budget for making the manuals at least, in 12 Times Roman font. Doing a 5 or 6 is not helping people.

Canines for Cancer

Pets, specifically, dogs are what I know best. Hence, I am starting this new fundraising event for a little girl with leukemia. I will walk your dog/ dogs for free, if you donate to this fundraiser. I have been a dog walker for two years, and this is my way of helping raise funds for cancer treatment for this little girl.

Amount of donation: walks
Five dollars: 1 walk free
10 dollars: 2 walks free
and so on.

Kindly support me in this effort,so that a little girl can get well soon.
Thank You!!
